Format:
Guide
Target population:
General population
Objetive:

Obtain an urban diagnosis that analyses the safety of people, focusing on the areas of housing, residential buildings, and public space in the immediate surroundings of the house (approx. 300 m).

This addresses social, physical, and functional aspects that influence the perception of safety in these spatial environments, from an intersectional gender perspective.

Methodology:

The guide includes a context analysis phase, with tools such as participant observation, interviews with key people, focus groups, a workshop on daily life and urban safety, an exploratory walk and inspection of the environment, perceptual and body maps and “the house without gender”.

In the intervention phase, a series of actions are proposed around six strategic lines: signposted environment, visible environment, living environment, monitored environment, equipped environment and community environment.

Opportunities and limitations:

The guide proposes a process of analysis and intervention that brings together diverse actors, including technical staff, women’s associations and other civil society organisations.

This scheme takes into account many voices and visions, but also requires a great capacity for consensus and has a long implementation time.

The proposed process does not include a final phase of monitoring and evaluation of the proceedings.

Multiple implementation support resources are provided.
