Presentation

Urban Environment and Health is a transversal program of Barcelona Provincial Council, promoted and coordinated by the Public Health Service, with an interdisciplinary working group made up of technical personnel from the areas related to the management of urban environments.

It was created at the end of 2010 within the framework of the Table for Urban Improvement of Barcelona Provincial Council, with the idea that the city model is one of the main determining factors of health. Since its inception, the objective of Urban Environment and Health has been to implement the strategy “Health in all policies” of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the design, planning and management of the different elements of the urban environment to promote healthy cities and towns and reduce environmental risks to the health of the population.

Work has been done collaboratively to provide tools, methodological resources and good practices for the incorporation of the health perspective in urban planning and the design and management of elements of public space, and the health impact assessment of policies and actions to improve the urban environment.

Fifteen years later, it is renewed as a space for the creation of local projects with an impact on the health and quality of life of people in municipalities, which materialize the concept of “Health in all policies” and the importance of the environment as a determinant of health.
