L’equipament es va inaugurar l’any 1993. L’edifici inicial tenia una superfície útil de 1.250 m2 i amb els treballs de reforma, a càrrec de Pere Santamaria, s’ha aconseguit augmentar la superfície útil de la biblioteca fins a 2.115 m2 sense modificar la volumetria de l’edifici.

Les millores han permès incorporar tres nous espais diferenciats que poden funcionar independentment de la resta de l’edifici i fora d’horari de la biblioteca: una sala d’actes, un espai multimèdia i un espai de suport. Així mateix trobem el servei d'autopréstec i retorn de documents automatitzat, basats en la tecnologia RFID que permet més autonomia als usuaris a l'hora d'agafar i retornar els documents.

L'equipament ofereix un fons d'uns 39.000 documents, entre els quals hi ha uns 31.000 llibres, 8.000 documents audiovisuals i 127 subscripcions a diaris i revistes. La biblioteca compta amb un fons especial sobre l’escriptora i periodista Montserrat Roig. Està oberta al públic 42.30 hores a la setmana.

Per a la remodelació, la Diputació de Barcelona ha aportat 174.690 euros.
