Objetive:

Evaluate health conditions of residents and identify opportunities for improvement through the built environment in urban regeneration projects.

Methodology:

This tool focuses on the determinants of health related to projects and programmes that can be designed and modified by technicians and professionals.

It organizes health determinants into the following six themes: healthy housing, sustainable and safe transport, care of the environment, social cohesion, public infrastructure, and healthy economy.

It proposes a 6-step process, beginning with the initial analysis, identification of priority aspects, selection of effective strategies, implementation, evaluation of results and long-term monitoring.

Opportunities and limitations:

Similar to the health impact assessment, this tool is created as a template that can be adapted for different cases and projects.

It was created in the USA, and so should be modified and adapted if it is to be used in other contexts and communities.

It provides checklists, templates, strategies and relevant indicators.
