- Format:
- Downloadable questionnaire
- Target population:
- General population and population in vulnerable situations
- Objetive:
-
Capture, through a brief questionnaire, the state of mental well-being in which the person has been in the last two weeks.
- Methodology:
-
This is a one-dimensional scale, consisting of five non-invasive questions about how the person has felt in the last two weeks. In each case, they can choose between the following six options: all the time, most of the time, more than half the time, less than half the time, occasionally and never.
To calculate the score, add the figures associated with each response (the greater the well-being, the higher the score) and multiply the sum by 4.
This results in a score between 0 and 100. A score below 13 points is considered an indicator for the application of more specific depression questionnaires.
- Opportunities and limitations:
-
The tool has been tested and validated across a wide age spectrum. It has been validated for children over 9 years old, and for adults and seniors.
Implementation is simple and quick (only five questions) and scoring instructions are straightforward and described by WHO.
As in any questionnaire, the translation must be carried out according to the indications (in this case, from the WHO) and always trying to adapt to the study population, but without altering the meaning and interpretation of the questions.
- Indicators:
-
Percentage of people who feel they belong in the neighbourhood/community. Percentage of people who feel they can influence their environment. Level of socioeconomic diversity. Percentage of employed population by sector/type. Percentage of unemployed population.
