SCCM method of monumental restoration

The SCCM Method follows these basic principles:

  • Regarding the object (the monument): the understanding and equitable valuation of its three essential dimensions (the documentary, the architectural and the significant) and the definition of its authenticity not based exclusively on the originality of the material, but on its capacity to guarantee the permanence of these essential values.
  • Regarding the act (the restoration): its conception as a simultaneously scientific, technical and creative, and social discipline, whose generic objective is to guarantee that the community enjoys the benefits derived from the conservation of monumental heritage. For this reason, each restorative act must protect the triple character of the monument in which it occurs, based on deep knowledge and critical analysis of its complex essence and that of its environment - both physical and social -, the objectification of the purposes of the action and tthe choice of techniques (analytical and therapeutic techniques and conceptual and projective criteria). So, this choice will occur not based on ideologies, but based on these particular purposes already established and their real suitability and effectiveness to achieve that protection.
  • Regarding the agents: the indispensable professional and interdisciplinary nature of studies and work, the fundamental role of public administration (understood as the set of mechanisms created by the community for the good governance of its common interests) and the active role of the communities targeted by the actions.
